Pouch IDs beat matching amounts
Two movements of HK$2,000 look identical on a careless sheet. A pouch ID keeps deposits and returns from colliding.
Amount-only lines invite confusion. A staged withdrawal of HK$2,000 leaves at 11:00; a supplier’s cash deposit of HK$2,000 arrives at 16:00; someone “closes” the morning stage with the afternoon deposit because the numbers match.
Pouch IDs — even simple ones like N-041 for night pouch or L-12 for lunch float — break that false match. The deposit line cites SUP-889; the withdrawal stage stays open until L-12 returns or is formally written off by a manager.
Label tape and a marker cost little. Retraining people to write the ID takes one practice afternoon. On reconciliation visits, we sort open stages by pouch ID first, amounts second. Discrepancies surface faster when the objects have names.
